Boo Boo Kit - Wasteland

Our Boo Boo Kits are a modernization of the traditional first aid kit.

Traditionally, first-aid kits have been a pile of single-use consumables that attempt to cover too much of the first-aid spectrum by using many sizes and shapes of bandage. 

By contrast, our approach is to separate first aid into 2 domains, First, there are traumatic injuries. traumatic injuries are life-threatening and require immediate life-saving attention. Secondly, there are "Boo Boo's" which include things like scrapes, cuts, slivers, minor debris in the eyes, ticks, etc. 

Our Boo Boo Kits take a tools-first approach and minimizes consumables. This reduces both the bulk and frequency of restocking the kit's consumables. This makes our kits perfect for sustained operations/activities such as hikes, hunting trips, deployments, or daily life. 

The heart of the kit is a spool that contains a Fresnel lens on the inside as a magnifier for dealing with slivers or as an emergency fire starter.  The spool is wrapped with 15 turns (~6t) of Leukotape P and 2.2 yards of Transparent film dressing tape. 

Leukotape:

Leukotape is a staple of the backpacking community. This fabric tape is tough and super adhesive and is often used as a buffer between skin and equipment to reduce blistering due to friction hot spots. 

Caution: In rare cases, the Zinc-based adhesive used on leukotape has been known to cause rashes in those allergic to the adhesive. Strongly recommend applying a 1/4th in by 1/4in piece and applying to the wrist to test for reaction prior to using it in a first aid capacity. 

Transparent Film dressing tape:

Transparent film dressing is waterproof and breathable and has become the new gold standard for wound care and tattoo aftercare. In addition, strips of the dressing can be overlain to cover large areas for injuries like large abrasions. This is a great benefit as traditional bandages had to be larger than the abrasion area leading to very large bandages needing to be included in first aid kits. 

Bandaging: 

In this kit, the gauze pads, transparent Film Dressing, and Leukotape are intended to be used independently or in conjunction to create customized bandages that properly cover and protect the wound instead of using standardized bandages that often do not optimally address the injury.

After cleaning the wound, apply a transparent film dressing; this is sufficient for small wounds. Gauze can be layered on this as a buffer against the bumps, and leukptape can then be applied as a protective top layer.
